The Distribution Grid Research Group studies applications of advanced measurements, simulation and modeling and control to enhance modernize and support the future distribution grid, particularly with high penetration of distributed energy resources.

    Distribution grid behavior ranges from the substation level measurement of aggregate load, on the order of four seconds to subcycle and harmonic level, where we are interested in transient performance and switching frequencies.
  • Pathway to Modernized Distribution Grid with Coordinated Resources
    DER Variability, both short and long term, has impact from the customer level, to feeder, to the bulk system. Grid performance and visibility limit ability to integrate very high penetration of PV and reach 2020 and beyond targets.
